percentage calculator: Calculate a percentage of a number, express one number as a percentage of another, compare an increase or decrease, or find a discounted price. The input labels change with the calculation mode. For exam marks specifically, use the separate marks percentage calculator.

How to use the percentage calculator
- Select the calculation you need.
- Read the two field labels because their meaning changes by mode.
- Enter plain numbers, using a decimal point if needed.
- Calculate and copy the result, including its label.
Worked example
15% of 2,000 is 300. A rise from 100 to 120 is a 20% increase. A PKR 2,000 item with a 15% discount costs PKR 1,700 before any other charges.
Percentage Calculator: understand the result
Four modes answer different questions
Percent of uses percent ÷ 100 × total. Percentage share uses part ÷ total × 100. Percentage change uses (new − original) ÷ original × 100 and needs a positive original value. Discount subtracts the chosen percentage from the starting price. Choose the mode before entering values so that a percent is not mistaken for a price.
Increase and decrease are not symmetrical
A rise from 100 to 120 is 20%, but returning from 120 to 100 is a decrease of about 16.67%. The base is different in the two calculations. Similarly, a 20% rise followed by a 20% reduction does not return to the starting number. Always identify the original value before interpreting a reported change.
Discounts and real bills
The discount mode applies one percentage to one nonnegative starting price. It does not add tax, shipping or a second promotion. Two consecutive 10% discounts reduce 100 to 81 rather than 80. When comparing print quotes or shop prices, use the same included services and charges so that the arithmetic compares like with like.
Use the percentage calculator on mobile or desktop
The percentage calculator controls adapt to the available screen width. On a phone, fields stack vertically; on a wider screen they stay grouped together. Choose the mode first, read the input labels, and then generate the result. The Copy result button copies the output if your browser allows clipboard access. If permission is unavailable, the output is selected so that you can copy it manually.
Keep a copy of any important input in your own document before resetting or leaving the page. Reset restores the starting controls and clears the displayed output; it does not create an undo history. The tool does not retain previous results, compare them with a database or submit them to another application for you.
After copying, check the result in the destination where you intend to use it. Preserve meaningful units, labels and exact characters. A browser calculation or conversion can be correct while a separate form, document or production process expects a different input format. Use the example above to understand the operation before relying on your own result.
Percentage Calculator: frequently asked questions
Can I calculate exam marks here?
Percentage share works mathematically, but the dedicated marks calculator also checks that marks do not exceed the total.
Why is zero rejected as the original value?
Percentage change relative to a zero base is undefined.
Does discount mode include tax?
No. It calculates the price after a single discount only.
