How to use the color palette generator
- Choose a starting colour with the picker.
- Select shades, analogous or complementary mode.
- Generate five swatches and inspect their balance.
- Copy the hex values and test them with real text and images.
Worked example
Starting with #d42151, shades keeps a related hue while varying lightness. Analogous mode rotates hue around the starting colour; complementary mode includes colours from the opposite side of the hue wheel.
Color Palette Generator: understand the result
A palette needs roles, not just colours
Assign a main brand colour, an accent, a background and readable text colours before applying all five swatches. A small set can look more coherent than using every colour equally. Test the colours beside your logo and existing photographs because a palette that looks attractive alone can clash with the actual content.
Harmony does not guarantee contrast
Related colours can blend together, which is useful for decoration but can make text difficult to read. This generator does not certify accessibility or calculate a contrast ratio. Check the final foreground/background pairs with an appropriate contrast checker and inspect small text on both phone and desktop screens. Keep meaning available through labels rather than colour alone.
Screen colours and print colours differ
Hex values describe RGB screen colours. A printer may require CMYK artwork, a particular colour profile or a physical proof. Bright screen colours can look different on paper, vinyl or Panaflex. Use the palette as a starting brief and confirm production colours in the design application and with your printer before ordering a large batch.
Use the color palette generator on mobile or desktop
The color palette generator controls adapt to the available screen width. On a phone, fields stack vertically; on a wider screen they stay grouped together. Choose the mode first, read the input labels, and then generate the result. The Copy result button copies the output if your browser allows clipboard access. If permission is unavailable, the output is selected so that you can copy it manually.
Keep a copy of any important input in your own document before resetting or leaving the page. Reset restores the starting controls and clears the displayed output; it does not create an undo history. The tool does not retain previous results, compare them with a database or submit them to another application for you.
After copying, check the result in the destination where you intend to use it. Preserve meaningful units, labels and exact characters. A browser calculation or conversion can be correct while a separate form, document or production process expects a different input format. Use the example above to understand the operation before relying on your own result.
