How to use the random number generator

1. Set the minimum and maximum whole numbers.
2. Choose how many results you need, up to 100.
3. Select unique values if repeats are not allowed.
4. Generate the list and copy it together with the chosen range.

Worked example

A range of 1 to 6 can return any whole number from 1 through 6. Asking for six unique values gives a shuffled set containing each once; asking for seven unique values from that range is impossible.

Inclusive ranges and valid inputs

Both endpoints can appear in the output. Negative numbers are supported, and a range with equal minimum and maximum always returns that number. Inputs must be whole numbers between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000. Decimal values and a maximum below the minimum are rejected instead of silently rounded or swapped.

Repeats can be legitimate

Independent random picks can repeat a result or form a pattern by chance. Unique mode answers a different question: it selects without replacement until the requested count is reached. Do not interpret repeated values as proof that a generator is broken. Choose the mode to match the actual task, such as selecting distinct practice questions from a numbered list.

Use the list for ordinary tasks

The generator is useful for classroom examples, shuffled selections and design experiments. It does not provide a publicly auditable lottery process, retain draw records or certify fairness for regulated competitions. If a selection affects other people, state the range and repeat policy beforehand and use a process appropriate to that setting.

Use the random number generator on mobile or desktop

The random number generator controls adapt to the available screen width. On a phone, fields stack vertically; on a wider screen they stay grouped together. Choose the mode first, read the input labels, and then generate the result. The Copy result button copies the output if your browser allows clipboard access. If permission is unavailable, the output is selected so that you can copy it manually.

Keep a copy of any important input in your own document before resetting or leaving the page. Reset restores the starting controls and clears the displayed output; it does not create an undo history. The tool does not retain previous results, compare them with a database or submit them to another application for you.

After copying, check the result in the destination where you intend to use it. Preserve meaningful units, labels and exact characters. A browser calculation or conversion can be correct while a separate form, document or production process expects a different input format.
