This is a percentage calculator, not an official grade, pass/fail decision or university admission aggregate.
Percentage of marks formula
Percentage = (obtained marks ÷ total marks) × 100. For example, 880 out of 1,100 equals 80%. You can use any positive total; 1,100 is only the example shown when this page opens.
How to use this calculator
- Read the obtained marks from your result card.
- Enter the corresponding maximum total, including the same subjects.
- Select Calculate percentage.
- Use the result alongside your board or institution’s official rules.
Worked examples
| Obtained | Total | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 880 | 1,100 | 80% |
| 960 | 1,200 | 80% |
| 425 | 550 | 77.27% |
| 450 | 500 | 90% |
The result is displayed to two decimal places. For a boundary such as an admission cutoff, use your institution’s rounding policy and the official result rather than assuming a rounded display changes eligibility.
Combining subjects correctly
Add the obtained marks from the subjects you want to include, then add their maximum marks. Enter those two sums. Do not average subject percentages unless all subjects have equal maximum marks.
For example, 80 out of 100 and 30 out of 50 combine to 110 out of 150, or 73.33%. Averaging 80% and 60% would give 70%, which ignores the different subject totals.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this for Matric and FSc?
Yes, for the arithmetic percentage. Enter your actual result-card total because maximum marks can differ by exam, subjects or scheme.
Does it calculate my grade or division?
No. Grade boundaries and passing rules depend on the relevant board or institution. This tool deliberately reports only the mathematical percentage.
Can I enter decimal marks?
Yes. Decimal obtained marks and totals are accepted when they are valid for your exam. Obtained marks must not exceed total marks.
Is this a university merit calculator?
No. A merit aggregate can combine different exams and an entry test using institution-specific weights. This simple percentage does not apply those weights.
